Honoring those who have sacrificed their lives for the country, Forest Avenue Elementary School held a Memorial Day ceremony on the school’s lawn on May 24. Forest Avenue Principal Gayle Manchisi welcomed the students to the ceremony, and members of the student council spoke about the importance of honoring the military on Memorial Day. Surrounded by American flags, the students placed wreaths outdoors in remembrance. Forest Avenue student Tyler Sullo was honored for his community service efforts with a certificate presented by the American Legion. The chorus closed out the ceremony with “This Land Is Your Land.”

As a review to their science lesson on chemical changes, the students in Ms. Riccio’s fifth grade class at Forest Avenue Elementary School conducted a St. Patrick’s Day experiment. Students made hypotheses about what would happen when they mixed yellow vinegar with blue baking soda. The result was a green foaming liquid as they recorded in their observations.
