As per the April 22, 2025 Board of Education meeting, the district will be running a total of 6 sections (18 students per section) of UPK next year, subject to enrollment and room use requirements for the 2025-26 school year. Five of these sections will be placed within Tooker Ave. Elementary, JFK Elementary and Santapogue Elementary schools next year.  One will be hosted by a local outside NYSED approved provider.

Our UPK lottery will be held virtually on April 30th at 10am. The link to access the lottery is posted below. Students will be selected one at a time until all open UPK slots are filled.  The lottery will continue to assign numbers to all registered UPK applicants in the case that more sections open up, or that openings occur due to students leaving the program.

On April 3, Forest Avenue Elementary School participated in a teddy bear clinic sponsored by the trauma center at Good Samaritan Hospital. Students in prekindergarten through second grade had the opportunity to become doctors and nurses to their stuffed animals during the event.

During this injury prevention program, participants learned about car and helmet safety in a fun and interactive way and dressed up as medical professionals to take care of their injured stuffed animals. Health Club members from West Babylon Senior High School were on hand to assist in teaching the safety lessons and help the elementary students in caring for their injured animals. While there, the high school students also learned about careers in the public health sector from a Good Samaritan outreach coordinator.

To showcase the school’s BR3 model of “being ready, being respectful and being responsible,” West Babylon Junior High School has added a new display to the main lobby. Each month, students who exemplify these traits are recognized on the board for their positive behavior and contributions to the school community. The board encourages them to consistently demonstrate these values and to notice when others are showing them as well. By recognizing these actions, the BR3 display inspires peers to follow suit, helping to build a strong community of learners who hold themselves and each other to high standards. About 20-40 students in grades 6-8 are recognized in each category monthly.
