Fourth Graders Show Off Their Coding Skills

Fourth Graders thumbnail263447

During their library classes with Ms. Ingrid, fourth graders at Santapogue Elementary School learned the basics of coding as part of Computer Science Education Week in December. The students worked together to create their own parade balloons. They then created codes to maneuver them along a parade route. The balloons were connected to a Dash robot that simulated the same route as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Santapogue Students Experiment with Candy Canes

Second graders at Santapogue Elementary School with candy canes. thumbnail263126

Second graders at Santapogue Elementary School became budding scientists when they explored the properties of candy canes during a hands-on lesson on Dec. 10.

The three second grade classes joined together to make their hypotheses on what would happen when a candy cane was submerged in three different cups filled with hot water, cold water and vinegar. Students made predictions for each candy cane they tested and were surprised to see the results happen right before their eyes.
